At a glance

What a relaunch includes, what we need from you and which costs may be one-off or ongoing.

What you get

  • A review of your current website
  • A revised structure and individual web design
  • A technical rebuild
  • Redirects from old to new page addresses
  • The switch-over on your existing domain
  • Hosting of the new website (monthly fee)

What we need from you

  • Access to your current website or content management system (the program used to edit it so far)
  • Access to your domain management or the contact details of your provider
  • Access to Google Search Console or visitor statistics, if available
  • Whether your email addresses are with the same provider as your website
  • Which pages and features are especially important to you
  • New or revised texts and photos
  • A contact person who can make decisions and approve drafts

Anything you do not have yourself, we obtain together with your current provider.

Costs and ongoing services

  • A one-off price for the relaunch – depending on scope and starting point
  • Exactly what is included and what it costs is set out in the written offer – before we start.
  • Hosting is charged as a monthly fee. You pay for your domain and email mailboxes yourself – we help you set them up. The amount of the hosting fee and any costs for later changes are shown in the offer in advance.
  • We take care of changes after launch – as a one-off job or as ongoing care.

About website care

How you can tell it is time

Not every one of these signs calls for a complete relaunch. But if several apply, it is worth taking a closer look.

  • Awkward on a phone

Text is too small, menus are hard to tap and you have to zoom in and out.

  • Noticeably slow

Pages load sluggishly – especially on the move with a weak signal, a reason for visitors to leave again.

  • Hard to maintain

Small changes take a long time or can only be made by one particular person who is not always available.

  • Outdated technology

The system or individual extensions no longer receive updates – a risk for security and operation.

  • Visits, but hardly any enquiries

There can be many reasons for this. Often the way to get in touch is too hidden or too complicated.

  • No longer a good fit

Your offer, your team or your branding have changed, but the website still shows the old state.

Redesign or complete relaunch?

The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they mean changes of different sizes. We work out what you need after reviewing your current website.

If it is mainly about appearance and usability, you will find more under Web design.

First, a review of what is there

Before anything changes, we take a close look at what already exists. From this we make a plan: what stays, what changes and what can go.

What we look at

  • Content: what is current and useful, what is outdated, what is missing?
  • Page structure and addresses: a complete list of all existing page URLs
  • Visibility: which pages bring visitors from search engines? (where data is available)
  • Metadata: existing page titles and descriptions
  • Features: forms, bookings, downloads and other integrations
  • Embedded services: maps, videos, fonts or analytics tools – and what they mean for data protection

The result

You receive an overview of the state of your website and a proposal for the new structure – including which existing pages move where.

Taking content and addresses with you

Your current website has left traces: links from other websites, bookmarks, entries in search engines. So that these do not lead nowhere, we plan the transfer carefully.

  • Important addresses stay unchanged wherever that makes sense.
  • If an address changes, the old address permanently redirects (301 redirect) to the matching new page – not simply to the homepage.
  • Page titles and descriptions that have proven themselves are kept or deliberately revised.
  • Useful content is kept and updated where needed, instead of being deleted without replacement.
  • Images and documents such as PDFs that other sites link to are also redirected or remain available.
  • Internal links are switched to the new addresses.

Keeping risks to your search visibility low

A relaunch is always an intervention, and it is never entirely without risk. Fluctuations in search results are possible after a switch-over, even when the work is done carefully. We cannot promise better rankings – but we do what reduces the risk.

  1. Document beforehand

We record which pages are important and how the website is doing before the switch-over – as a basis for comparison afterwards.

  2. Test redirects in advance

The list of all old and new addresses is checked before launch, not only once errors appear.

  3. Test version not public

The new website is built in a test version that search engines do not index. That way there is no duplicate content.

  4. Monitor after launch

We submit the new sitemap and check for error pages and missing redirects during the first weeks.

Design and technical build

The new website follows the same principles as all our projects: designed for smartphones first, easy to read and with accessibility according to WCAG 2.2 AA as a goal.

We rebuild existing features such as forms, bookings or downloads so that they keep doing what they should – often more simply than before. Along the way we check embedded third-party services for their benefit and their impact on data protection.

We build your new website with modern, lean technology and also take care of the hosting. After that, we make changes for you – as a one-off job or as part of ongoing website care.

Testing and switching over

The switch-over is the most delicate moment of a relaunch. That is why everything is tested thoroughly beforehand and the timing is agreed with you.

  1. Review the test version

The new website is fully available in a protected test version. Your current website stays online until the switch-over.

Your part: You take your time to review the content and display.

  2. Test features

Forms, links and integrations are tried out on smartphone, tablet and computer, along with accessibility and loading times.

  3. Check redirects

Every relevant old address is tested against the redirect list.

  4. Switch-over

At an agreed time the new website goes live on your domain – ideally at a quiet time for your business.

Your part: You approve the website and agree the date with us.

  5. Check after launch

We check the live website, submit the sitemap and watch for error messages in the following weeks.

  6. Ongoing care

If you wish, we then take over the ongoing maintenance of your new website.

Frequently asked questions about a website relaunch

Will we lose our Google rankings because of the relaunch?

That cannot be ruled out, and nobody can honestly promise improvements. Fluctuations are normal after a switch-over. With clean redirects, retained metadata and a check after launch, we reduce the risk.

Will our domain stay the same?

Usually, yes. The new website goes live on your existing domain. We take care of the hosting and help you switch the domain over. The ongoing costs involved are shown in the offer in advance.

Are our email addresses affected?

If email and website are with the same provider, the switch-over has to be planned especially carefully so that email keeps working without interruption. We clarify this before launch.

Will our website be offline during the relaunch?

No. The new website is built in parallel as a test version, and your current website stays online until the switch-over.

Can existing texts and images be kept?

Yes, we keep useful content. During the review we look together at what is current and what should be revised. You provide new or revised texts and photos.

Can you keep using our existing system?

We take over the content of your current website – whether it was built with WordPress, Wix, Jimdo, Squarespace or another system – and rebuild the website with modern, lean technology. We do not continue running the old system itself.
